A virtual economy is an economic development that exists in the virtual world. It isually refers to the trad- ing of virtual goods in online games. The main purpose of people participating in these virtual economies is for fun and entertainment, not for essential needs. This means that the virtual economy does not con- tain elements of the real economy that are not considered to have entertainment value. Nevertheless, some people will also engage in the virtual economy for "real" financial gain.
